To all who’ve said goodbye to family, friends, and those they hold most dear…
To all who’ve left grandmothers and grandfathers growing old, and nieces and nephews growing up…
To all who’ve left churches, and ministries, and small groups, and meaningful roles in the kingdom of God…
To all who’ve left jobs and salaries, stable bank accounts, and the comforts of proven colleagues…
To all who’ve left behind memory-laden homes, and friendly neighborhoods, and lovely cities, and familiar roads, and favorite restaurants…
To all who’ve said farewell to good schools, faithful teachers, and invested coaches…
To all who’ve left a better climate, or a pleasant landscape, or the topography that best soothes their soul…
To all who—like the two men I spoke with today, one old and one young—are chasing God more than anything else…
To all who’ve followed God’s clear calling wherever that calling leads—which is always a painful joy and a mysterious adventure…
Thank you, well done, and Godspeed.
I pray that you might know afresh, this very day, that God always shows himself perfectly faithful to all who’ve said goodbye.
